Your Detailed Step-by-Step Instructions for Easy Baked Spaghetti Casserole

Preparation: Preheat your oven to 350°F. While the oven is heating up, prepare a large pot of salted water to cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions. Meanwhile, chop the fresh parsley and set it aside.

Cook the Spaghetti: Once the water is boiling, add the dry spaghetti and cook it until it reaches al dente texture. This typically takes about 8-10 minutes. Once done, drain the spaghetti and set it aside.

Prepare the Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef (or Italian sausage), diced onion, minced garlic and diced green pepper. Break up the meat while cooking until it browns evenly. If there’s excess fat, drain it off.

Simmer the Sauce: Pour the pasta sauce into the skillet with the cooked meat mixture. Add seasonings and stir well to combine all the flavors. Allow the sauce to simmer, covered, for about 5 minutes. This helps meld the flavors together and ensures a rich, flavorful sauce.

Assembling the Easy Baked Spaghetti Casserole

Assemble the Casserole: In a 9×13-inch casserole dish, layer the cooked spaghetti, cottage cheese and chopped parsley, and the prepared meat sauce. Repeat layering until all spaghetti is used. Note: Some prefer to toss everything together until the spaghetti is evenly coated with the sauce. Guess what? Still delicious.

Add Cheese and Bake: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella over the top of the spaghetti mixture in the casserole dish. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 140 minutes, or until the cheeses are melted and bubbly, and the casserole is heated through.

Serve and Enjoy: Once the casserole is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Garnish with additional fresh parsley if desired. Serve portions of this delightful baked spaghetti casserole hot, and watch it disappear within minutes!
